How to Volunteer

Red Lodge Fire Rescue volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and should be in good physical and mental health. The applicant must possess a current Montana driver's license, have a good driving record, and may not have a criminal record.

Applicants often ask, "Will I be required to respond to every call or be available 24 hours a day?"

The answer is no. We strive to work around your availability and needs and appreciate all service hours dedicated to our organization.  Each division has a minimum requirement for service, plus training required to remain a member in good standing.

How Do I Apply?

EMS Division, Search and Rescue Division and Support Division recruitment is continuous and applications for those divisions will be accepted at any time.  The Fire Division has a recruitment drive that begins in approximately October of each calendar year.  Applicants, regardless of prior experience, are encouraged to apply to each division in which he or she has an interest.

You initial step is to fill out an Application. It is important that all information requested on the application be completed in detail. Next, have it notarized, and drop it off at the station.

Your application will then be reviewed by personnel from the appropriate division(s).  You will receive a notification to schedule an interview with representatives from the division(s) you are applying to. This interview process is important step to make sure that your understanding of our service matches what we actually do - please bring any questions that you might have.

If your application and interview go well, you will be required to undergo a background check before your final approval.

How Will I Be Trained?

As a volunteer member of Red Lodge Fire Rescue, ample opportunities will be provided to you for both in-house and external training. Each division has specific recruit academy and requirements for job proficiency, and these training sessions will be a mixture of lecture, practical instruction, hands-on skills, and self study.  As you progress in your division specific skills we will continue to provide advance training to make sure your needs are met. For additional details on the of types of training that are offered feel free to contact us today.
